Kobushi Ate – Knuckle strikes

Knuckles strikes are applied primarily to Kyusho points. The knuckle strike differs from the normal punch in a form that does not impinge here the whole fist on the destination point, but the second knuckle of the extended middle finger. This painful technique is, e.g. set on the back of the hand of the aggressor to solve a clinch grip or the grip of a weapon. It is essential to make sure that you are not injured by the impact itself on the hand.

Alternatively, the index finger knuckle can be advanced and used to strike. It is distinguished as followed:

  • Nakadaka ken - Middle finger knuckle fist
  • Ippon ken – Index finger knuckle fist
