Shotei uke – Handball block

Shotei uke is defined as a hand block with the ball of the hand (see also Ude ate waza, Shotei uchi). In this block technique it must be ensured that your own fingers are not violated. The block technique can be applied both, horizontally (as a variant of Uchi or Soto uke) or vertically (variant of Jodan age or Otoshi uke). Also a two-handed variant or as a sweeping block are possible.

Shotei uke is also known as Teisho uke.

Folgende Varianten von Shotei uke sind möglich:

  • Jodan shotei uke – Defense on the upper level
  • Chudan shotei uke – Defense on the middle level
  • Gedan shotei uke – Defense on the lower level
  • Teisho awase uke – Defense with both balls of the hand (awase = composite), e.g. for Mae geri.
