As Nelson various neck lever are denoted (Kubi kansetzu) at the wrestling sport. One differentiates between the Double Nelson and the Half Nelson.

Double Nelson:
The Double Nelson fixes the opponent stronger. Here, both arms are guided through the armpits of the opponent and his hands clasped behind his neck. Case of excessive applying neck injury can be threated.

Half Nelson:
At Half Nelson one hand is placed under the arm of the opponent through his neck and pressed forward. As a holding technique this grip is of limited use, more often it is used to force the opponent to the ground or to rotate it in ground combat.


Defense strategies:
In the area of self defense, one should not be possible to come to the attacker attaches completely to Nelson handle. Particularly in the case of strong, muscular attackers, liberation from a well set grip is not so easy to accomplish. Moreover, there is an extreme risk of injury to the own neck vertebrae.
